A helical ground anchor is a screw-shaped steel anchor that twists deep into the earth to provide a strong, permanent hold-down point. Use one to secure structures against wind uplift and movement, such as fences, sheds, trampolines, tents, gazebos, dog runs and guy ropes. Because it grips the soil along its full helix, it resists pull-out far better than a straight peg.

The ground anchor size you need depends on the load and soil, with longer, wider-helix anchors giving more holding power in soft ground. As a general guide, small anchors around 300–450 mm suit tents and light structures, while 500–1000 mm helical anchors suit sheds, fences and trampolines. In loose or sandy soil, step up a size or add more anchor points.

Yes, earth anchors are typically hot-dip galvanised or coated steel, so they resist rust and stay strong while permanently buried outdoors. The galvanised finish handles rain, frost and constant soil moisture without weakening the anchor. This makes helical anchors suitable for long-term securing of outdoor structures in all seasons.

You install a helical ground anchor by turning it clockwise into the ground using a bar through the top eye until only the fixing eye remains above the surface. Keep it vertical and let the helix pull itself down; no digging or concrete is required. For extra grip in soft ground, drive it in at an angle away from the load or backfill and firm the soil around it.

A helical ground anchor's holding capacity depends on soil type and anchor size, but larger models can resist several hundred kilograms of pull in firm ground. You connect to the top eye or ring using rope, straps, ratchet tie-downs, chain or turnbuckles to tension the structure down. The GeZu Impex range is galvanised steel with a fixing eye suited to standard straps and ropes.
